Providing Photos
It is very important to provide the highest resolution digital image or a photographic print.  We must be able to see the whites of the eyes to best see the detail in the face.  Don’t worry about other subjects or objects in the photos.  We can work with images that are less than perfect.  If you are not sure you can send your photo in advance to photos@mypopart.com for a free evaluation.  Below are some Photo Tips to help you choose the best photo:

Q) What is the best kind of snapshot to send? Should I make an enlargement?
A) A well focused color or black and white photograph that is normal snapshot size will work (prefer 5x7 or larger if possible). For 'Popart Style' the subjects head must me a minimum of 2 inches tall. We will drop out the background and correct any red eye that might be present.

Q) Can I send a print out from my computer of a photo I have scanned?
A) This is not recommended, images from your printer are likely to have a lot of graininess that you would never notice, but our scanners will pick it up and the resulting image will be lacking in detail. We would prefer you send us the original image you have scanned.

Q) Do I have to send three snapshots?
A) No. We suggest that people send three or more so that we can choose which will work best. If you have only one good photo or know absolutely which shot you want us to use go ahead and just send one. We will send all photos back with your completed artwork.

Q) Will I get my original snapshots back?
A) Yes. All snapshots will be returned. We do recommend making a copy of your snapshot if the picture is precious. We can not be responsible for lost mail due to post office errors.

Proof Procedure
Once we have received your photo you will be contacted via email by a Mypopart artist. A color proof will be sent to you via e-mail within one week.  Once you approve the sample we sent, we will continue with the printing process. Your order will ship within one week of your proof approval.  Please let us know if delivery of this portrait is needed for a specific deadline (birthday or holiday).

Taking Successful Photos
The best photos are very sharp, clear photos. If the artists can see the faces clearly and the whites of the subjects eyes, we can certainly create artwork of masterpiece quality for you. It does not matter if it is black & white or in color or if there are other objects or people in the photo.

Photograph your subject, outside, on a bright, but overcast day with a flash. Harsh sunlight tends to deepen shadows and can distort coloring. The flash can add light to your subjects face and help balance out the shadows.

Once we receive your photos, if we find that there is not enough detail to work with, we will contact you and let you know so that we can attempt to get suitable photos for your portrait.

Please note the clearer and more focused the photos are the more accurate your Popart Portrait will be.  If the photos are blurry or the subject is too far away in the photo, then the artist will have to guess on the
details.

For a successful portrait the head and shoulders of the subject need to fill as much of the original photograph as possible. Faces should be at least 2 inches in diameter. Contrast should be good (flash works better for this) and the shot needs to be in focus. 'Popart Style' portraits work better if the eyes are open and looking at the camera.

When Scanning Photos
Please make sure to scan the photos with 300 or 600 dpi (dots per inch) and a minimum size of 5x7 inches so that the artists can see enough details. If there is any problem with your photos, we will contact you right away. It's best if you let us do the scanning so we make sure the resolution is high enough to give you the best final piece. There is no charge for us to scan you photo.

If you don't know how to check your resolution, check the file size before you send it. The size of the digital file should be at least larger than 3000K or (3MB) with no compression or highest quality) and will likely be larger. Image files should be saved in a ".jpg" or "tiff" format.  If in doubt, send us the photo via regular mail and we will do the scanning for you. Your original photo will be returned to you with your completed portrait.

Providing Prints
If you have a few photos that you would like us to choose from, send them with a note asking us to choose the best. Your photos are scanned into the computer. They are not harmed and will be sent back to you with your final piece in the same condition that we received them. We can scan up to an 11x17 size print.
