Light up your Bathroom

You know, for as much as I like decorating my house, I always felt like my bathroom got the short end of the stick. It just wasn’t very exciting to decorate. My living room has a giant fireplace, which I consider the centerpiece to the house, so of course it was easy to add all sorts of nice touches. The fireplace itself has these beautiful stone structures that I’ve placed around the mantelpiece. My kitchen is the main part of my home so that was the easiest to decorate, with orange lace curtains (which looks better than it sounds, believe me!) and soft yellow wallpaper with intricate design.
But back to my bathroom. In a word? Dull. My husband painted it grey for some unknown reason. It gets very little light since there is only one small window which doesn’t get much light throughout the day. Our bathroom is also kinda cramped and smaller than your average bathroom.
We already spent a good deal of money this year getting the rest of the house “more fashionable” so I needed something simple. I ordered a Limited Edition from My Pop Art and I can’t tell you how much difference it makes. I swear, it acts like a source of light in there, it’s so bright and inviting. It’s a purple and yellow image - it looks like a flower but often looks like many other things to me, depending on my mood. And it actually really works nicely against the grey walls. Good job, My Pop Art…and thanks!
My New Pop Art Car

When I graduated high school, my dad bought the best car ever: a 69 Chevy convertible. Sparkling baby blue. Growing up, my dad and I worked on old cars together. I knew I was getting a car for graduation but this was incredible! I think my Dad was as psyched about it as I was. The first day we were under the hood, taking a look at the underside of this baby and how to keep it purring! My dad had an additional gift, which I thought was pretty cool: he had taken a photo of the car and sent it into My Pop Art so they could…pop artify it! It was a great shot and the artwork was bright and funky, with these crazy colors. He thought it would be perfect for my dorm room. It ended up being the very first thing I put up on the wall. This way, when someone asks, I can say, “Yep, that’s my car!.” Now even when my car is in the garage, I feel like its right there with me. I know that sounds weird, because its only a car. But really…this car is not only a car - its a very special car. I wouldn’t be so keen on it otherwise. Thanks Dad. I’m thinking of buying a motorcycle next. I think the Pop Art piece up on the wall needs a brother. I’m thinking Harley but I’ll have to wait and see. I guess tuition comes first. What a drag!
My Pop Art - Capturing the Moment

When I first heard about our family reunion, I knew I would be the designated photographer. This time, I decided to approach things differently. I knew I’d enlist the help of My Pop Art for some of the finer photographs.
Every 5 years, we have the big occasion down in West Virginia on my Aunt’s farm. It’s utterly beautiful there, with tons of room. Some people camp, some stay in the various small houses she has on her property. We all have a blast.
We usually do a big, group shot but this year I wanted to capture smaller group pictures, where we were more “in action” as opposed to the big, posed one. Of course, I’d have to do that one too - everyone expects that - but I wanted to be experimental this time. So I go shots of a tug-of-war, for instance, that are just priceless; the pained and determined look on everyone’s faces just makes me laugh. Then I got another of everyone chowing down on one of the best, homemade dinners of all time. Another one captures the moment of rest: people lying on blankets, reclining on chairs and being very “Southern.” All of these shots showcased my family at rest and at play - not just posed, with big smiles plastered on their faces. This was the real deal - my family!
I sent these into My Pop Art and used these gifts for various occasions throughout the year…and I’m so glad I did. No one expected these non-traditional family shots…but they certainly worked and very much “captured the moment.”
My Pop Art for Early Romance

When my niece discovered her first love, our whole family was thrilled. Tina is a very shy 17-year old. She loves to read books and watch old movies. She likes gardening and knitting. She’s not your average teenager. When all the girls were going to dances, Tina was at home trying out a new cake recipe. She seemed quite unconcerned with boys…until Andrew came along. That’s when I got my camera out and caught it all for Pop Art’s sake!
Andrew works at the gardening center up the street. He, too, is shy. They must have met a dozen times before my niece even mustered up the energy to even say to her. When she did, he happily responded, as if he’d been waiting for it for months (which he probably was!) Soon, they go on small dates with one another, mostly pertaining to gardening of some sorts - visiting a botanical garden or an organic farm.
I was thrilled to capture a beautiful shot of the new couple, standing in front of a blooming forsythia bush. They both have smiles a mile-wide. It’s the kind of shot that makes everyone happy, when they see it. I sent it to My Pop Art and gave the final product to my niece, who almost cried! She happily tore down her kitty poster and replaced it with her new beau and her, smiling in front of a flowering bush. Lovely! My little niece was growing up and I’m happy to have it captured in a pretty, distinctive art piece.
Pop Art Everywhere I Look

Since I ordered a few art pieces from My Pop Art, not only has it changed the look of my house but it seems to have changed the way I look at things in general.
The pieces I have hanging in my living room and office are bright, beautiful and bold. I had sent them photos of a woodsy landscape by my house and when I received the final product, I was so pleased. The pieces literally jumped out of the wrapping! It is real, living breathing art, that’s for sure. It’s almost like having additional lighting in each room. This was especially important because frankly, these rooms are kind of dark and a little dull. With only two pieces of art, I seemed to have changed the tone and feeling of my home. Talk about cheap interior design! My friends come over and say, “Your place looks different. Did you redecorate?” Of course, I tell them I did…but I don’t tell them how!
Since then, everywhere I look, I see that Pop Art boldness - from cereal boxes to a bright, blue sky to a hydrangea bush. Pop Art can be a way to look at life, brighter and bolder than the dull grays that have abounded before in my slanted vision. Pop Art makes life a little more fun and daring - eye-catching and soul-catching. It’s a great way to work from the inside out. Buy Pop Art and the brightness will come!
Taking Photos, Sending Pop Art

When Krissie and I started our friendship a million years ago, I never realized how important our photos would be to us. She moved overseas and often we’d communicate by sending our photos back and forth to one another. When I discovered My Pop Art, I knew I could send her something more than just a photo and really surprise her. But what photo to choose?
It’s tough when you have hundreds of pictures to choose from. We’ve known each other since grade school. I sorted through batches and batches and finally came up with my choice. It was one of the two of us on the first day of school. We were both looking spiffy and quite excited. It’s kinda funny especially since she and I didn’t like school so much, but we sure look psyched that day!
When I sent her the My Pop Art version of it, she said that it beat all the photos in the world. She was thrilled to have a bright, bold artistic representation of a lifetime worth of friendship. I was thrilled to have sent it to her, to see our friendship come to life on a whole new level. We’ve been through it all together but somehow that photo showcases our strength, our excitement, our joie de vivre! That’s something that’s gotten us through the good times as well as the bad. I wanted that on her wall to remind her that we manage, somehow, all the time. We are essentially, always, those little kids.
Simple Photos for Pop Art

When I first discovered My Pop Art, I was excited but unsure what to send them. My friend had recently gather 14 of her relatives for an elaborate, posed shot in the mountains. The Pop Art version was incredible, with a mountain in the backdrop but I wasn’t sure what I could do that would be comparable!
Then I looked around at my walls and realized that my art was mainly pretty simple but elegant. I had a painting of a horse on my living room wall and while it sounds simple, it’s quite a simple elegant image. On another wall, I have a glass of water, half full (or empty, I suppose, if you look at it that way!) I thought to myself, I like simple images. Let me take a quiet shot and send it into My Pop Art.
So a quiet shot it was! I took a shot of my cat in the middle of sleeping. She had rolled over and her belly was exposed. She looked completely relaxed - as cats often do - and I thought it would be nice to have that image in my office, to remind me that I work best while relaxed.
My Pop Art sent me a lovely, electrified image of my kitty, done up in shocking shades of yellow and acid green. I loved it! My walls were so boring in my office. This would certainly be the colorful masterpiece, no doubt! And it was…or is I should say. It still hangs there, catching everyone’s eye. I hear tons of comments on it.
I’m glad I went with such a simple shot. That’s a little more my artistic style…and I didn’t even know it!

When my husband decided to run a marathon, I thought, “What the heck are you thinking? The only ‘running’ you do is to the fridge to grab a beer during a commercial break.” But I wanted to be supportive. At least, this would be a photo opportunity, I thought. Plus, if I got a good shot, I could send it to MyPopArt.com and give it to my husband as a birthday gift! Yes. 2 for the price of 1!
So my husband trained. And trained. And trained. He lost weight and became very focused. I was really impressed. I’d never seen him “go for the gold” like this and it really made me proud of him. By the time the marathon rolled around, I was as excited as him. I wasn’t really sure how he’d do in the long run (excuse the pun) but I knew whatever he did, we’d make the best of it.
I was “front row” when they shot the starting gun and got the most magnificent shot of as he just began his run, his face focused, his body poised. I really think it’s one of the best shots I’ve ever taken. I sent it to My Pop Art and I just loved it! So did my husband. He has it hanging proudly on his office wall.
How did he do? He petered out somewhere around Mile 14 and we went home and watched the rest of a game. But neither of us cared. It is what it is, world. You win some, you lose some, you shoot it all.
Celebrating Summer with Pop Art

“Summer’s here and the time is right for dancing in the streets.”
That’s how the song goes. Wow. I don’t know of the last time I danced in the street, but I’m sure willing to give it a try. I will pull out my camera, I vow to myself, and shoot photos of myself dancing in the street, or of friends who are visiting, or of the birds flashing about, or of the raspberries growing in my backyard or the waves crashing resoundingly.
Once I do this, I will send my best summer work into My Pop Art and have the image recreated into a magical, fun and lively piece to put up on my wall, reminding me of Summer 2008 for many years to come.
The seasons fly, don’t they? The last two summers I felt like I didn’t grab them, couldn’t hold them in my hands. Last summer, I worried a good portion of it, over stuff that has now been resolved. The previous summer, I had moved and my head felt like it was spinning most of the time.
This summer, I want to be like the summers of the past, where you lie around dreamily watching the day slowly unfurl, like the wispy clouds above. Or at the very least, you meet a hot surfer dude and drink beer with him in your backyard! Either will work just fine by me. But this time, I will capture photos of it all, sealing it in my memory, helping me encapsulate my sprawling, silly and fun little life in digital.
